An integrated engine, charging and electrical-system project designed to improve mechanical reliability, charging performance and confidence before an extended Caribbean cruise.
The new owners were preparing for an extended cruise and wanted to resolve several recurring mechanical and electrical issues before departure.
The engine had become less reliable to start, charging performance was inconsistent and the yacht’s batteries were not recovering as quickly as expected while motoring. There were also signs that several cooling, fuel and electrical components required attention.
The starting and charging problems did not occur consistently, making careful diagnosis essential.
The engine, alternator, batteries, chargers and power-management equipment all affected one another.
The work needed to be completed, tested and proven before the owners’ planned departure.
We approached the project as a complete reliability review rather than treating each symptom separately.
The engine, starting circuit, alternator, battery bank, charging controls, cooling system and fuel supply were inspected and tested. Worn components were replaced, electrical connections were improved and the charging system was upgraded to work correctly with the yacht’s battery configuration.
Following the repairs and upgrades, the yacht underwent dock testing and sea trials to confirm performance under realistic operating conditions.
The yacht now has more dependable propulsion, improved charging performance and a safer, better-organised engine-bay installation.

The battery bank receives more dependable charging while the engine is running.
The owners departed with a clearer understanding of the systems and confidence that the yacht had been properly prepared.
